چکیده

Adhesives are in general chemically or physically sticky substances used to join surfaces. In case of gluing biological and living substrates, there is a need for bioadhesives that meet requirements such as biocompatibility, non-toxicity, degradability. Inspiration found nature, where distinct mussels, sandcastle worms, barnacles, caddisfly larvae, spiders, glowworms amongst others, use mainly protein-based glues various purposes. There great selection reviews books covering the applications, but here focus lies on advances development bio-inspired adhesives biomedical applications.

Enhanced adhesion of bioinspired nanopatterned elastomers via colloidal surface assembly.

We describe a scalable method to fabricate nanopatterned bioinspired dry adhesives using colloidal lithography. Close-packed monolayers of polystyrene particles were formed at the air/water interface, on which polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) was applied. The order of the colloidal monolayer and the immersion depth of the particles were tuned by altering the pH and ionic strength of the water. Initi...

Bioinspired catechol-terminated self-assembled monolayers with enhanced adhesion properties.

The role of the catechol moiety in the adhesive properties of mussel proteins and related synthetic materials has been extensively studied in the last years but still remains elusive. Here, a simplified model approach is presented based on a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) of upward-facing catechols thiol-bound to epitaxial gold substrates. The orientation of the catechol moieties is confirmed b...
